"Just recently I visited Newmarket and saw this very scene all over again - even the weather was identical, icy but with glorious clear skies! A string of racehorses walk down to the bottom of Warren Hill, one of Newmarket’s most famous landmarks. At the bottom they tun and in single file gallop up the all-weather track to the treeline at the top. It is a stiff climb and quickly identifies the fittest horses. I loved the glow of the early morning sun lighting up these figures from behind, casting shadows in front of the horses, also the effect of the wind causing the horses’ tails to stream out behind them and the sand to billow in clouds beneath their feet." |
