I used to enjoy wandering
over the racecourse at Goodwood (in the days when such a pleasure was permitted
by the authorities!) - it is like a different world away from the hubbub
of the racecourse proper. One of my favourite spots being along the sprint
court - where the jockeys follow the stone wall dividing the course from
the road and the woods beyond. Goodwood used to be surrounded by huge beech
trees (many of which were lost in the great storm of 1987) and they provided
a unique >backdrop= for racing scenes. Here the horses have just left
the stalls and are heading away with the sunlight glancing off the jockeys'
silks. |
