"It is always exciting
watching horses working on the Limekilns gallops at Newmarket. These gallops
are reserved for the summer season and I usually visit them when in Newmarket
for the July meeting. By this stage of the season there are some 'known'
stars to be seen and the Limekilns are the ideal place to go and look
for them...
This painting depicts three horses from Henry Cecil's string working on the strip by the Bury Road. I thought the Summer morning sunshine lit the horses beautifully with the beech trees across the road as a backdrop. Also, the colouring of the pinks and greys which are soft and unusual somehow looked just right in this light." |
