’Chasing World Mourns Daniels

Patricia with Lonesome GloryHorsewoman Patricia Daniels, 30, died April 26 from injuries sustained in a horse trailer accident in Pennsylvania.

A native of County Galway, Ireland, Daniels had been assistant to American steeplechase trainer F. Bruce Miller since 1990. Her career mirrored that of Kay Jeffords’ champion Lonesome Glory, whom Daniels broke as a 2-year-old and groomed and galloped throughout his Eclipse Award-winning career.

Besides grooming and exercising Miller’s charges, the dedicated young woman helped manage the trainer’s Pennsylvania farm and even rode his horses in the occasional point-to-point.

Daniels’ death has devastated the Millers, and the steeplechasing world at large. “It’s the worst,” Miller said. “Trish was like family to us, and such a part of our lives.”

Daniels is survived by nine siblings and her parents, Patrick and Julia Daniels of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. Several family members reportedly flew to Pennsylvania to escort Daniels’ body back to Ireland on April 30.
