16 - 24 May Museums Week

The National Horseracing Museum's contribution to Museums week will be fun competitions and treasure trails - name the horse and hunt the horseshoes, for example. And of course all children can have fun on the horse simulator!

SPECIAL TOURS

Wednesdays, May - Sept 09.30am - Newmarket Through the Keyhole

A two-hour walking tour into the hidden side of Newmarket £4 per head. This tour may not run if fewer than three participants turn up.

2 July - Ghosts of Newmarket

2hr minibus tour of Newmarket and the area to uncover grisly goings-on and horrible hauntings £4 per head

30 May, 8 July - An Insider's Introduction to Racing

All day minibus tour, starting with visits to yards and gallops to see how trainers, lads and horses prepare for the race. During the afternoon your expert guide will take you to the races and explain how to judge form, how to read the racecard, betting and much more. Includes entry to Members' Enclosure. £40 adult, £16 under 12

24 July - 16 Aug Whistlejacket by George Stubbs (1724 - 1806).

Whistlejacket returns to the town of his greatest race in the form of a life-sized masterpiece on loan from the National Gallery. This magnificent work will be complemented by Stubbs' Gimcrack, on loan from the Jockey Club specifically for this venue. Admission free. Sponsored by Christies

24 July - 27 Sept Sir Alfred Munnings (1878 - 1959) - The Santa Anita Park Collection

Ten paintings by the 'English Impressionist' unseen in this country since the 1950s when they were acquired by the Los Angeles Turf Club to hang in the Turf Club at Santa Anita racetrack. All but one are racing subjects, and show Munnings' love of horses and racing and his ability to capture his subjects in wonderful landscapes. Much of his ability to capture horses' movement and presence arose from careful study of equine anatomy, including Stubbs' etchings. Admission included in Museum entry ticket.
