This is one of my series of scenes from Goodwood racecourse depicting the paddock on a lovely summer's day. It was very breezy, as it often is on top of the Downs, and from the angle that I have chosen to paint this picture the landscape in the background stretches all the way to the Isle of Wight. I experimented with a rather unusual composition with the figures of the horses all going right to the edge of the canvas fully utilising the space within the picture. "
