This painting is based on years of observation. A group of young horses are excited by the cold weather and the sight of the visiting deer in their field. As always in situations like this they run as a group, pulling up some way from the object of their curiosity, snorting furiously.

I deliberately chose to set the scene early morning; the sun, low in the sky, creating mist over the melting snow.
