Next on the agenda was the working Ardennes class. The three mares did a quick change and reappeared looking smart in their best harness each in a wagon or farm implement. This class and the "Working Ardennes Mateus Memorial Trophy" was won by Scarlet owned by Mr D.Briggs and currently on loan to the Working Horse Trust. They all looked the part showing the sound sensible working traits of the breed. | "Scarlet" winner of the Working Ardennes Class - complete with trophy |

Jenny Collet and General put on a great show under saddle and had the full support of the crowd

To round the afternoon off we then had a ridden Ardennes class. Now it is unusual to see a working horse of this size and stature being ridden, but the Ardennes are neither as tall or as wide as they might look. Some are really quite small and compact and with their good temperament make excellent ride and drive horses, also being used by the riding for the disabled. We like to reflect this by holding this class. |

The was won by the
senior stallion General carrying his sixteen years with ease. He then went on to Chertsey
show's ridden championship, where he really did the breed credit, walking, trotting and
galloping around the ring with the best of the light horses. He got a standing ovation and
a great cheer when he and his owner Jenny Collet did their show. He really gave a
marvellous demonstration of the tremendous movement these chunky little horses can come up
with and made a fitting end to the day. I would like to thank Chertsey Agricultural Show for allowing us to be there, Mr. R.Gifford for being our judge and Mr Boyde, Jenny Collet and all the Working Horse Trust Team for bringing their horses, without which it would not have been possible.
